Podcasting in 1st Grade using G-cast

A teacher sent me the following e-mail. I was so excited to receive it! She is definately a lifelong learner!

Cameron,

I just have to share my success with you. I joined GCAST and now have my children reading books and saving them as pod casts for us to assess reading fluency! We only have a list of 4 readings so far but the children are excited. And how many times do they actually get to hear what they sound like reading? It is going to be very helpful with reading. But as you already know there is so much that can be done through this site. My mind is spinning with the different pod casts we can make and what we can do with them. If you want to listen to ours, go to podcasts in itunes, go to subscribe to podcasts, go to advanced in the top menu and type in http://www.gcast.com/u/mwiggins/. That should bring up our list.

Secondly, I have successfully transferred cassettes to CDs using Audacity! I use a listening center daily with books on tape or teacher made listening lessons/activities so this was so important to me. All the cassette players around here are breaking. Again there is so much more that can be done with this.

Thank you so much for all the inspiration you give me. It is because of you I can do this and my classes will forever benefit. These are baby steps in the big picture but they are big steps for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Minnette

Now, it isn't because of me, it is because she took what she learned in a professional development and tried something new! Thank YOU Minnette! You can hear her students by going here: http://www.gcast.com/u/mwiggins?nr=1&&s=101733983 Click POSTS to see a list and click the initials of a student to hear.

If you have a success story, please comment on this post! Maybe you will inspire someone to try something new! Thanks!
